In 1950s London, a civil servant close to retirement must come to terms with the life he has led.

Living has a gentle but sturdy plot held together by the acclaimed leading man and sensitive direction. The protagonist's lifestyle could best be described as antediluvian, leaving us to wonder how much of his lot is due to social constraints or circumstance, and how much is a conscious choice. The work environment which he endures is depicted as so subdued that audiences may find themselves unable to breathe. The modern world is probably teeming with similar characters, which is what makes the message worth amplifying. Live, live until you die.
