Upon being released from a circus, a donkey travels through Poland observing the countryside, paying close attention to the treatment of animals.

The unusual structure of "EO" is explained by the movie being the imagined experiences of a donkey, made up of scenes rather than a coherent plot, and thankfully lifted by humorous moments. You'll need to remind yourself there's no context beyond that of a creature concerned with animal rights, and the camera work is extraordinary, capturing close-up views of nature and hallucinatory nightmarish landscapes. An interesting aside is that the lead role is filled by six different donkeys, all with the same doleful eyes. The transition from one to another is seamless, and each is a good actor. Let us bray.
