From the late 1970s, a heterosexual Jewish couple had an unorthodox business running a hardcore gay porn store.
This documentary is directed by the porn shop couple's daughter and is lovingly told. "Circus of Books" walks us through an interesting slice of history and is a nice-to-know tale rather than a need-to-know story. The production manages to be surprising, like when the business owners start to produce their own gay porn in a time just before being put out of business by the internet. Ultimately this is a story of acceptance and that part is deeply satisfying. Porn pride.
