Drive My Car

Yusuke Kafuku is mourning his wife when he's invited to direct a Chekov play in Hiroshima, and assigned a chauffeur to drive his car.

"Drive My Car" is impossible to summarise in a synopsis. Its span and reach are wide and the storyline is layered with multiple emotional themes. There are many almost otherworldly elements to the movie but it maintains a balance between lucidity and dreaming without alienating the audience. The extended runtime makes watching like a long road trip. The director happily ensures the right vehicle for the trip and the destination is a surprisingly rewarding one. Cruise control.
