Deerskin

A man becomes obsessed with a fringed deerskin jacket with which he develops a close relationship.

"Deerskin" sets out to be a comedy, but with its focus on a toxic type of at-all-costs male vanity, it's more of a tragedy before it descends into a psychotic-style horror effort. This movie is all of that without fully occupying any one genre, all the while maintaining a deadpan absurdity. Part of the problem is that the director fails to bring the viewer in on the story or the joke - there must a be wisecrack buried somewhere - only nobody is laughing. Jacket required.
