Fables are characterised by their moral lessons and while the action in "Cat Person" errs on the heavy-handed side, its messages are squarely targeted at a Gen Z cohort. From a shockingly bad first kiss to one of the most excruciating sex scenes ever depicted on the big screen, the director delineates between romantic longing and an authentic relationship. A couple of flat spots stretch the runtime, and while siding with a woman's perspective may alienate some, this taut, fraught, dark, and occasionally comedic production will launch numerous conversations. Not kitten around.
