MIFF: Anatomy of a Fall

When Samuel falls to death from his French mountain chalet, his wife is arrested. The ensuing investigation attempts to determine whether his demise was suicide or foul play.

The title "Anatomy of a Fall" perfectly describes the movie’s plot: a forensic courtroom examination of the fall. Everything about the deceased man's familial relationships is scrupulously investigated. There's a slight misfire when the dialogue is so astute as to not sound natural, but it still makes for compelling viewing despite the smart-talk and extended runtime. The actors, including the family pet, have been fittingly cast, and there's enough plot ambiguity to leave audiences questioning the outcome long after the credits roll. We all fall down.
