Ad Astra

Astronaut Roy McBride embarks on a top-secret space mission to find his missing father at the other end of the solar system.

Like the deep space it traverses, "Ad Astra" is teeming with nothingness. The far-reaching planets of our solar system obviously take some time to visit, and this film really makes you feel that distance. It's a slow and uneventful story, where any semblance of drama is overtly manufactured into the already confusing plot. Even the father/son relationship at the heart of the narrative is as cold as Neptune, leaving us with very little except a moderately fascinating insight into the future of domesticated space travel.
