Comedy Drama Sci-Fi

When a scientist discovers a way to shrink humans, people adopt the procedure to save the environment and make a better life for themselves.

With its outlandish premise, "Downsizing" could have been terrible in the wrong hands, but thankfully the director does a remarkable job with the sell. It's amazing how much you buy into the concept, which is aided by some clever production and brilliant execution that deliberately echoes our modern-day global-scale fears. Eventually, the more fantastic elements of the plot take a step back to reveal a sombre story of compassion, and you quickly forget you're living in a miniature world when the wonderful and eclectic cast work their charm. Big things in small packages.
