X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Action Adventure Sci-Fi

After a freak space accident, Jean Grey begins to realise the full potential of her powers, only to be corrupted and become the Dark Phoenix.

"Dark Phoenix" feels almost obligatory rather than exciting. This adaptation of one of the most storied arcs in comic book history shows glimpses of greatness - the CGI is stunning and the soundtrack ominously brilliant - but ultimately it lacks the imagination to deliver the send-off X-Men fans deserve. The terrific cast is wasted on a repetitive narrative and a cardboard villain who is glaringly underdeveloped. An anticlimactic ending to an otherwise brilliant franchise reboot. Burnt out.
