Wood and Water

A newly retired woman from rural Germany travels to visit her estranged son in Hong Kong, a city wracked with political protests.

The backdrop of a humming city disturbed by protesters is the perfect foil for a movie led by a quiet character whose demeanour is stoically accepting. "Wood and Water" is layered with small encounters and ordinary conversations with the likes of shopkeepers, and enlivened by interesting camera angles to capture the surroundings.
