Crime Drama Thriller

Amidst turmoil and desperation, four women are forced to forge a future on their own terms.

"Widows" represents a fascinating fusion of genres; essentially a feminist heist-thriller interwoven with socio-political commentary. Although some of the messages are a little heavy-handed, it admirably touches on relevant issues such as class, race and gender divides, to the ugly machinations of corruption and patriarchy. It's the stellar ensemble cast that drive this film, and thankfully the women at its centre are afforded enough characterisation that we may appreciate their empowerment. Despite the disjointed narrative, the fact our interest doesn't wane is testament to the deftness of the director's hand. See you at the wake.
