Three Summers

Comedy Romance

At a summer music festival, the feisty lead singer of an Irish folk band meets a folk music-hating theremin player and sparks fly.

The message: embrace diversity and hear other people's stories. The execution: repetitive scenes, basic characters, and a basic humour that spits out the same old divisions about immigration and 'Aussie identity'. The result is embarrassing, and poignant moments otherwise typical of the genre are rendered lifeless. There are some genuine laughs, and while the film's heart is in the right place, it has evidently been lost. If this is modern Australia I'm moving to Canada.
