The killer of a woman, who was murdered in gruesome circumstances, has not been identified. Her grieving mother resorts to using billboards to keep attention on the case.

"Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" seethes with emotion as it examines themes of redemption and revenge. The action is back-lit by humour so dark that it barely diffuses tension which continues to build. It's deeply serious, a black beyond black experience, exquisitely balanced with white-hot grief and resentment. Rarely are characters more achingly human in their complexity and underlying vulnerability. It's taut, simmering, and extraordinarily rewarding viewing. Anger begets more anger.
