The Woodcutter Story

Pepe the woodcutter enjoys a simple life in a Finnish village until he loses his job, his wife has an affair, his house burns down, and his son runs away.

"The Woodcutter Story" is a darkly comic and surreal exploration of the meaning of life. The movie is populated with deadpan characters who inhabit an unfriendly snow-covered landscape. The viewer's experience will vary depending on whether you can draw parallels between your own existence and the haunting purgatory on the screen - where most people accept that life has little meaning and is horrible. There's a low-level mocking tone that's uncomfortable and it's a relief when credits roll. Chopping bored.
