The Wife

Joe Castleman, an acclaimed author, travels to Stockholm with his wife Joan because he is to be awarded the Nobel Prize for literature.

"The Wife" is an intimate inspection of a marriage and the career aspirations that were thwarted by the union. The movie, and the novel it's based on are set in last century, which explains all the smoking, but for the premise to be credible it needs to have been two or three centuries ago. The cast is excellent showing an accomplished emotional range, all well and good but few of us watch movies for the performances. For better or worse.
