The Whistlers

Crime Comedy

A veteran police detective helps a group of mobsters spring a big-time criminal from a Bucharest prison.

The plot to "The Whistlers" is both complicated and clever. The title, for example, describes a whistling language the gangsters use to avoid detection. The production is darkly comedic with an unmistakably Eastern European feel, but not without its flat moments. The tone can be as world-weary as the lead detective and the use of movie cliches does little to lift it. As if to prove testament to the film's patchiness, the soundtrack is enjoyable although some of the tracks have been heard too often. You know how to whistle don't ya?
