The King

Documentary

A documentary examining Elvis's career trajectory right to the flailing, bloated finish, where comparisons are made with the turgid state of the U.S. political landscape.

The scope of "The King" is ambitious and sprawling much like an all-you-can-eat buffet. It's rare to see the central performer's career framed as a ridiculous failure and, all things considered, not entirely false. It becomes apparent that parts of his life work as metaphor for almost any description of the home of the free. Watch it if only for the closing musical montage which brilliantly illustrates the overblown dysfunction of the man and the country. Unpresidented.
