"The Invitation" is an ominous film dotted with jump scares. The gothic setting helps to set the mood for the mischief and intrigue afoot, all relating to our leading lady. Lavished with attention and gifts from the leading man who has a jawline that simply will not quit, the first half of the film is much more romance than horror. Unfortunately, the plotline lacks nuance, the pacing is terrible, the dialogue is cliched, the characters make odd choices and overall, everything is a bit too obvious. RSVP: No.
