The Handmaiden

A cunning man known as "The Count" recruits a pickpocket to serve as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress hoping she can assist in winning over her affection and inheritance.

"The Handmaiden" is an intriguing and exotic epic where going into the cinema knowing very little will only enhance your experience with each revelation that unfolds. Exquisitely shot and meticulously designed, the seductive cast play their suspicious and suspenseful roles superbly. The three-part story unravels slowly, but it's all part of the thrilling and romantic build-up, where patience is rewarded in the deeply satisfying finale. Long and twisted and disturbingly beautiful.
