The Giverny Document (Single Channel)

Documentary Experimental

In its full three-channel form, "The Giverny Document" is an art installation. As a short movie the film-maker says it is "...my little film about what it's like to be a black woman."

This short addresses its central question by drawing on diverse images and views. The result is an intense mosaic that screams with the aftermath of a police shooting interspersed with a soundtrack song repeating 'how can I live?', as an interviewer stands on the corner of Malcolm X Boulevard in Harlem asking women if they feel safe. Every image and moment holds significance, underscored by simmering rage. Paints a picture.
