The Forger

Drawn from the life of Cioma Schönhaus, a graphic artist who hid and lived in Berlin during World War II while forging hundreds of identity documents.

"The Forger" shows how different people, particularly those not directly involved in the fighting, tried to survive the war that consumed their families and the city around them. The atrocities surrounding the plot are well known and horrific, though while omnipresent they are not the focus. Most extraordinary is the human spirit and chutzpah of the protagonist, someone able to choose his attitude, live openly and not be cowed by threatening circumstances. A tiny work of art.
