The Father

Every once in a while, an opportunity comes along to witness truly extraordinary acting and this film presents one. The lead actor's portrayal of a feisty elderly man suffering from the vagaries of dementia is quite possibly the best work of his career. Adapted from a play and directed by the playwright, "The Father" is an honest, almost brutal, portrait of the maelstrom caused by memory loss, the battle to remain present amidst the currents of confusion, and the distress this causes loved ones. Whilst the subject matter is heavy and emotive, the quality of the cast and production make this movie a riveting experience. Father knows best.
