The Family I Had

Documentary

In 2007 a 13-year-old named Paris murdered his four-year-old half-sister, Ella, stabbing her 17 times. Now their mother is struggling to come to terms what it is to be a family.

This documentary explores a horrific crime. There is no doubt that the crime was committed, the perpetrator confessed immediately. The filmmakers try to understand the circumstances and background to explain the psyche of a very troubled young man, while a lot of ground is covered without any real answers being uncovered. Perhaps there are none to be had. In the end interest wanes having only questions the macabre to sustain it. Sad.
