The Dry

Based on an Australian mystery thriller novel about police officer Falk, who returns to his hometown for the funeral of his best friend and discovers that big secrets often reside in small towns.

We know a book and its movie adaptation as different experiences of the same story. As a film, "The Dry" is a faithful recreation and delivers a taut emotional drama. The mystery is diluted slightly as clues in the screen-version are more subtly presented and easier to overlook. The drought-ravished scenery is a stunning element of the narrative, comparable to images conjured by reading the corresponding pages. Catcher in the Dry.
