"Minions: The Rise of Gru" is everything a fan of the franchise could wish for. It aces the tricky balancing act of delighting kids, while appealing to adult humour both punny and clever. A new take on old favourites, including a dancing dose of disco, ensures an entertaining soundtrack. The sublime animation does justice to the frenetic action-packed slapstick plot. The cast and their antics may be familiar, but manage to remain fresh thanks to their good-natured affability. Mini-boss rules.
