Mary Shelley

Biography Drama

Mary Wollstonecraft Goodwin becomes enamoured with Percy Bysshe Shelley and conceives her gothic horror novel, Frankenstein.

On the big screen, the romantics find themselves mired in a melodrama which is all a little horrifying. Scarier still is that their unconventional lives start to appear, in this telling at least, rather well-mannered. Thanks to the actor in the central role, the author lives - the only character taken beyond a caricature of their imagined history. On the plus side, "Mary Shelley" is artistically created and filmed full of fine period detail, albeit with one too many dark and stormy nights. Frankly my dear...
