Elizabeth, Queen of England, and her cousin Mary, Queen of Scots, struggle individually with power, sovereignty and love, each threatened by the presence of the other.

In this historical drama, which is graced by regal performances, the story is interpreted through a modern lens. More consideration is given to the social issues of today than the ones of the period, and we're encouraged to view this telling with today's sensibilities. It is sumptuous and rich on the big screen, and the sets are outstanding, but this version is more fiction than historically accurate. God save the Queen(s).
