Malcolm and Marie
Drama
At the premiere of his movie a director fails to acknowledge the inspiration provided by his partner.
"Malcolm and Marie" is a beautifully shot black and white production that takes too long to get to its seemingly inevitable conclusion. The couple's interactions are intense and delivered as monologues better suited to the stage, underutilising what can be done on the screen. There's an irritating bait-and-switch element to the script where one party rants while the other waits for their turn. Inhibited by the limitations of the work, the actors (unsurprisingly) don't quite manage to bring their roles to life. Love is a battlefield.
