A gin-soaked woman comes to New Zealand to be with family as she rehabilitates a broken leg, and her wayward grandson becomes her primary carer.

Two characters, related to each other but from different generations and with no love lost, have to rely on each other to get their needs met. A nice set-up, but the plot fails to bring forth any surprises, leaving this family drama predictably predictable. The production is invigorated by the lead actor who is as formidable and commanding as ever. Freshness is introduced by the unspoilt location, a country we don't visit often enough in the movies. Sloe and feisty.
