With that strong bond, the courtesan held on to her place in the court despite strong resistance from traditional quarters. As befits the setting, this is a splendid and sumptuous movie resplendent with costumes and production design that brings authenticity. The director conjures onscreen magic by imbibing the central characters with real emotion that brings the entire production to life. Drama queen.
