Alia comes home for the summer, returning to her family in Newark from UCLA to discover all is only superficially well at home and the local community are hungry for gossip.

If YA were a genre in movies, like it is in books, "India Sweets and Spices" would slip onto that shelf as a dramedy tinged with romance. This colourful movie sits atop feminist issues, particularly disdain for an arranged life as a wife and a mother. There's vibrancy brought to the issues by the protagonist, who's as fiery as any spice mix while exuding sweet authenticity in her rebellious role. Bhuja mix.
