Happy Death Day

Horror Thriller

A college student must relive her birthday over and over until she discovers the identity of the masked killer who repeatedly ends her life.

For such a ridiculous and derivative premise, "Happy Death Day" is surprisingly silly fun. There's a morbid joy from witnessing an obnoxious college student get repeatedly murdered without consequence, but also those heartwarming moments of character transformation that you don't expect from a film labelled as a horror. Apart from its unique spin on the time-loop narrative, the story also benefits from some canny plot twists, and a general attitude of not taking itself too seriously. Happy retribution.
