Halloween

Laurie Strode comes face to face with the psychotic masked figure who tried to kill her 40 years ago.

"Halloween" works perfectly well as fan service to the original film that defined the slasher genre. It pays homage to its past and the recognisable tropes that come with it - but doesn't fully embrace the modern era. Despite highlighting the effects of PTSD and trauma, the re-treading of familiar ground only adds to its predictability and campiness. Not the scariest, but the nostalgia is a real scream.
