Groundhog Day

Phil Connors, a TV weatherman, finds himself reliving the same day over and over in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

"Groundhog Day" stands out for the originality of its premise. An insufferably egotistical wise guy, who always has an obnoxious retort at the ready, has as long as it takes to learn about himself and change. On the surface, this is a modest production and easy to underestimate on first viewing. Theories abound about metaphors and possible religious interpretations but it's most likely simpler than complex. Whatever the filmmaker's intention we're left with an enduring movie that withstands watching again and again. Endlessly amusing.
