Firestarter

A documentary marking the 30th anniversary of the iconic Australian performing arts group is told through the personal story of the artistic director Stephen Page.

"Firestarter" relates the history of the celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander company who perform dances of the Dreamtime to keep the indigenous dreaming alive. Their skill in telling stories, often around identity and using traditional movement, is vividly evident. There's also an element of seeking catharsis for the loss of two founding members to suicide, which serves to enhance the pride around their achievements. This is a story that, much like its subject, proudly celebrates both empowerment and adversity. Smoulders.
