Kayla is graduating from middle school and trying to navigate her transition to high school while vlogging advice for others.

There is something excruciating about the social awkwardness of the teenagers in "Eighth Grade", and that's mostly because their angst is recognizable in an enduring intergenerational sort of way. There is something almost universal about the misgivings of adolescence, and it's so perfectly captured here that the audience suffers it too, no matter how old we are. This indie production is unpolished and authentic, all delivered in perfect teenspeak, a beguiling tale that deftly avoids the usual clichés. Gucci.
