The daughter of a former beauty queen signs up to her mother's pageant as a protest, revolutionizing it in the process.

"Dumplin'" is a multifaceted coming-of-age story with a lot of heart. As much an exploration of grief as it is a story about beauty pageants, the social commentary and character growth is phenomenal. Teenage anxiety and body image issues are front and centre, and they are addressed in a realistic way. The cast deliver quality performances, the romantic subplot is subtle enough that it doesn't overpower the main storyline, and the country music sing-alongs are surprisingly fun. Jolene.
