Dreaming Walls

A documentary wandering the halls and history of New York's iconic Chelsea Hotel as it's transformed into a luxury hotel.

The most bohemian of destinations is being gentrified even as the last few long-term, and not especially renowned, residents remain. Much of the screen time is taken up with shots of building work in progress, while the production is focused on today as the rooms are remodelled and covered over. The floors are haunted with artists of the past, but the pervading sense is of decrepitude. This series of piecemeal vignettes leaves audiences longing for a little more.
