Custody

Drama

A divorcing couple tries to work out access and custody arrangements for their son.

The emotional space between a divorcing couple can be understandably agitated. It's that intrapersonal instability that is captured with an unnerving realism in "Custody". At the outset, we observe belligerence as the central parties and their families take their sides, and the subsequent progression to disordered fury is captured by the director's unfaltering eye for subtlety. The ordeal wrought on each of the protagonists is apparent before the story culminates in one of the most terrifying cinema sequences depicted that doesn't involve soldiers, criminals, or aliens. Bruising.
