Captain Marvel

An Air Force pilot becomes Earth's greatest hero after unknowingly getting caught up in an alien war.

Despite a languid opening act and occasionally wooden lead, "Captain Marvel" still manages to rise to the occasion and deliver a stellar (if not slightly predictable) superheroine origin story. Once the film finds its feet, there's enough 90s nostalgia, interstellar battle sequences, killer tunes and impressive de-ageing technology to make the whole thing worth the trip; particularly with the added flair of female empowerment. Just what the captain ordered.
