In a small town on the Western Australian surf coast in the 1970s, two teenage friends discover the risks and elation of surfing, mentored by a retired champion.

"Breath" is a remarkably atmospheric movie that shows what is to breathe deeply, to gasp with exhilaration rather than merely living from one monotonous moment to the next. The boys learn about fear, mostly vanquishing it as they take on challenges, and occasionally surrendering defeated. The ocean is not credited with a role but features in many scenes and is filmed from every possible angle, always alluring but also temperamental. Beach and boys.
