Brain on Fire

A young woman starts behaving erratically for seemingly no reason.

"Brain on Fire" takes a while to catch, but once it does, it's a fascinating case study of misdiagnosis by a lazy medical system. Where this film shines is in its casting; the parents who just want answers are believable but not over the top and our leading lady is incredibly convincing as we watch her lose her mind in front of our eyes. The storytelling is a little off-kilter with too much time spent on the before rather than the during and after, but overall this is an enthralling look at a rare disease. Firestarter.
