Boy Erased

Jared is the teenage son of a Baptist pastor, coerced into attending a gay conversion therapy program rather than being shunned by his family.

"Boy Erased" is based on a memoir and is really directed at those who believe homosexuality can be erased; sadly those are the very people least likely to watch. The director puts a human face on the perpetrators of this practice, striving for authenticity rather than demonising. The finely rendered central performances are the strength of this story of fraught personal struggles. If anything, the movie underplays their inner conflicts but we still get it. Boy validated.
