Angelo

Drama

The true story of Angelo Soliman, a Nigerian born in the 18th century and sold into slavery to an Austrian Countess and later to the Viennese court.

"Angelo" spotlights the high-impact social issues of privilege, inequality and servitude. A small boy is educated while being treated as a novelty pet. The sets and costumes are sumptuous, complementing an otherwise minimalist production. Today's relevance is apparent as we're socked in the senses by elegant and bejewelled-gloved fists. The director's approach is a radically effective way to bring awareness to toxic attitudes that prevail in slightly different guises today. Born to slavery.
