An Unexpected Love

A couple realise that the spark is gone after 25 years of marriage and they divorce.

"An Unexpected Love" is built on a flimsy premise as the central empty-nesters seem to share a genuine affection for each other. There's a heavy-handed reliance on talk over action, which leaves little opportunity to feel with the characters. They may be congenial, but it's hard to empathise with either of them. Audience patience is tested by the long running time, particularly as we realise the resolution was apparent from the beginning. Not all that unexpected.
