In 1998, Tom Junod's assignment was to write 400 words about children's TV host, Mr Rogers. After spending time together, the journalist submitted 10,000 words.

The stories of the journalist and the TV show host are so entangled that the movie is as much about one as the other, and the lead actors are impeccable in their respective roles. "A Beautiful Day in The Neighborhood" is completely disarming. Put aside any scepticism and prepare for damp eyes. A subject that could have been mawkishly sentimental is instead a heartfelt testament to kindness, delivering an antidote for jaded audiences who inhabit a cynical world. A good day.
