Wonder

A young boy with a craniofacial condition starts school after some years of homeschooling, and ostracised by his classmates because of the way he looks.

"Wonder" could be viewed as a lovely inspirational story teaching empathy and kindness, but in reality, it's nothing more than disability porn. It's well-meaning but contrived - a disfigured child should not be an object of pity or admiration simply because they look different. To make things worse there's a good dose of, possibly inadvertent, 'lookism' in the mix. The children in this movie, bar the one obvious exception, are movie-star attractive. So wonderfully sweet it's icky.
