The Zookeeper's Wife

Biography Drama History War

The incredible account of Antonina and Jan Zabinski, keepers of the Warsaw Zoo, who saved the lives of hundreds of Jews during the German invasion of WWII.

"The Zookeeper's Wife" is a beautifully shot, old-fashioned melodrama with admirable intentions. The leading lady is superb in her role as a real-life heroine, carrying a difficult Polish accent with aplomb. Unfortunately, the movie itself plays out like a sanitised version of events. Given the fact this biopic is based on such an extraordinary true story, it fails to lend the impact it so thoroughly deserves, lacking the sense of emotional fortitude and heroism that should come naturally to such a film. Tame.
