The Super Mario Bros. Movie

When the plumbers are transported from an underground Brooklyn water main into different kingdoms, Luigi is imprisoned by Bowser and Mario enlists Princess Peach to help find him.

Those new to video games may experience pings of familiarity and others will enjoy pangs of nostalgia while being entertained by "The Super Mario Bros. Movie". Rainbows and colour are contrasted with lava and darkness, and it's fun to have a princess as a rescuer rather than the rescued. Even so, viewing the film is a different experience to playing the game, less involving as there are no decisions to make or effort to invest. Bloodless battles are fought and won without player intervention while characters share a goal of making their dads proud. Take-a-that!
